I am probably going to have to reinstall XP but first I want to
try the repair option. Where on the disc is this option. I
remember seeing it before but I can't find it now. Do I have to go
past the upgrade or new installation message? I didn't want to go
past that until I knew the repair option was in there. Also, what
does the repair option affect...installed programs wise?
TIA

you just boot from the cd
and you will be asked if you want to repair
or install

if you select "repair" you will eventually get a chance to repair
your system (it will replace the "system" files)

btw..this may actually work better than the "repair" option

go to *reinstall*
if you select the option to install *without* formatting
you can install XP back over itself.

although you'll have to reapply the service pack
your data and apps should remain intact

i've done it with success
however if you do so...it;s at your own risk...
so be sure to backup any data you need first

Interesting...did you choose the full install and not the upgrade I
assume? And the programs you had installed were still installed?
Very nice if that would work :-)

There is no way that all the apps will still work. Registry settings for
the programs will no longer be there and it would be a mess.
