I have problems scanning documents.

To get a scan to work, I have to unplug the usb cable (that goes from desktop to scanner)

Then reopen my scanner app and then it scans.

I do not know what it would be called, but I could use something that would let me cut the connection between the cable and scanner without actually unplugging it.

I am probably to only person who has ever as for this. :-)

I am handy with electronics, so maybe there might be a way to cut into the cable and insert some switch?

Somewhere between 30 and 100 different kinds available on the internet.
But if you want a real cheap method just cut the red wire and wire nut
it back together when needed.

I think I can do a little more professional looking job than using a wire nut.

Since the wire gauge is about 22, a switch can be small.
