Not necessarily correct. QuickTime will only play the file if can find the
codec necessary to do so. I have plenty of MP4 files that QuickTime will
not play.

Just upgraded to WMP version 11.0.5721.5145. After WMP11 upgrade I

WMEncoder 9 codec pack. Also installed GSPot270A to discover the audio

video codecs on my laptop. WinXP Control Panel reveals that 14 video
codecs
are on laptop. GSPot shows 288 audio and video codecs on laptop. Still,
WMP11 does not recognize .mp4 file format. Also, WMP11 plays .avi file
as
audio file with no video. What do I need for WMP11 to play .mp4 and
.avi?
