I have a new desktop and a new laptop with windows 7 and they don't
like my HP 4000 laser jet printer. How can I get it to work?

Larry is right about visiting the HP site. They now have "universal
print drivers" that basically let older printers work with newer
machines. I had a horrible time getting my 64 bit Vista (HP) laptop to
print from my HP 1300 laser jet printer until I found and installed the
universal driver.

(You would think that an HP PC would come already loaded with driver
for HP printers.

And why would that be? With the thousands of HP printers out there, just
think of the wasted space to have drivers for every laserjet, deskjet,
inkjet, plotter, etc. just for the past 5 years. And who says an HP PC
owner is going to buy an HP printer?

The "universal" drivers are bare-bones, stripped down drivers that
barely do anything but print. I had a 2 year old HP deskjet when XP came
out. Neither XP nor HP had the full driver for it any more, and the ME
one wouldn't work with XP. I waited about a year to see if there would
be anything for it, but no, just the universal one. I ended up buying a
new printer since the deskjet would only sporadically work correctly
after that. I was surprised to see that my HP all-in-one has Win7
drivers.

Its often Cheaper to buy a new printer then a set of inks Any way. But
I'm disappointed in the fact my HP 4890 scanner Does not have drivers
other then the basic For Win 7 as this means it can no longer scan
transparencies and film. Its not old and it was not cheap.. So I have to
use the laptop and XP to scan sldies.

That's true- quite often you can catch a Lexmark on sale for $40, and the
black/color twin pack goes for about the same or a little more.
The 4890 is 3 years old, which is older than my deskjet was at the time XP
came out. Have you tried re-installing the Vista full package drivers?
Maybe they'll work (no guarantees).

SC Tom

It Will not load the vista drivers as The installer is not compatible
