You can use more than one, but there's a trick. You'll need that in any
case if two e-mail programs are resident, in case you accidentally use
the other reader.

When you are experimenting with more than one e-mail reader, it is a
good idea to set your programs to leave copies of your e-mail on the
server(s). Otherwise when you read an e-mail in program 1, it is no
longer available for program 2 - or vice versa. Yu can delete mail
alter, manually. Once only one program is present, you can go to the
normal setting of delete on server.

This applies to POP e-mail, not to IMAP, at least the way IMAP is
working for me. My IMAP mail remains on gmail and is always available
to me on whatever device or program I use to read it.
