Default M-Board failure -- need to access files

"Information" wrote in message
...
Our Dell just died, confirmed by replacing power supply and still nothing.

I have installed the drive into an external case, and have access to the
files. When I go into a specific user, I get an Access Denied.

I believe this user password protected their account, and made their files
private.

How can I regain access to this folder and its contents?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

It's normally a simple matter of taking ownership of the files. Google
"take ownership XP" and you'll find the directions.

Less normally, and much more seriously, IF this is XP PRO - this does not
apply to XP Home - and IF the user invoked encryption, you have to boot from
that drive to that user account to get the data back. If you can't do
that, the data is effectively gone forever.

The only way around it is to import the credentials from the credential
backup diskette made when encryption was invoked, or using the recovery
agent. However, most people skip that step.
