Default Failed to start after installed SP2

It is strange about all the USB problems.
I've tried the SP2 installation on a few machines now and the best result
has been a clean install with a slipstreamed SP2 installation disc.
I took one computer and installed SP2 to an existing SP1 install, and it

was
miserable slow. I wiped it and clean installed WinXP SP2. It runs just as
fast as ever (same software setup).
A couple of installations have worked just fine.

I have a notebook that I connect and remove a few USB devices on.
With all unplugged, I installed SP2 and it just about killed it.
Did a clean install and it works just fine. All USB devices work fine.

Who knows at this point. We may all be part of a lab experiment.

Even though I've read that SP2 supposably includes all of SP1, my
experience, via trial by fire, so far has been that it is absolutely vital
that a computer be operating with NO (read: zero) errors or other operating
system related problems (such as malware of any kind) and for it to have
already been fully updated to SP1 (not just with the critical but also with
the recommended Windows as well as the driver updates) before applying SP2.
Under those exact conditions I've not had any problems with multiple SP2
updates I've done (so far, and knock on wood!)
