Hi, I am considering your advice and will reinstall if I have to but it
seems I may be able to solve the problems before I have to do a reinstall
seeing the things that are slowly coming right and after a little research
on
the internet.
The computer is not letting me remove the page file which is giving me a
very good reason to do the clean install. WHat holds me back from do a
clean
install is this is a NEC Packard Bell computer and I just now discovered
the
restore partition may be intact and I may be able to run an F11 restore
which
I will attempt after the umpteenth defragment utility process finishes.
fun

Assuming you have the winxp cd or recovery disk & key, copy all data to
external, clean install winxp, by deleting all partitions in the
installation process

I think the owner of this PC has installed XP again on a second
partition.
There is 2 18GB partitions on a 40GB hard drive. XP boot is FAT32 on
the
end
partition and XP is NTFS is on the 1st partition. Magicjellybean
product
key
finder tells me there is only one product key. There is a large
Windows
folder in each partition and lots of applications which is why I
think the
WIndows folder is so large.
