I logged in to the local admin account and I can see the files in the
offline
folder but just as with the user, I cannot open them. The path to the
file
is given to a location the user does not have access to.

\server\home

It should have pointed to

\server\home\username

I checked the loaction on the server and there are no files or folders
located there.

It looks like the offline files tried to move the files to a folder that
the
user did not have rights to.

Can this be modified? There is a real fear of loss of data and there are
no
backup copies....

Thanks

If you go in Folder Options / Offline Files / View Files

Unplug your network cable.
Try logging into local computer (without the domain) with an admin user
(not
the user that created the files).
Do you see the files if you go to Folder Options / Offline Files / View
Files ?
What happens if you double click the file ?

Thanks for the quick reply.

"the user haven't synchronized the files yet ?"
The sync process started but gave errors that it couldnt access the
server.
The drive was mapped to the server and the user had permission to
access
it.
I tested and verified that.

"What do you see under type in the Offline folders ?

When you open the offline folders on the notebook you see all of the
files
as you would expect. If you try to access them it will open the
correct
program associated with the file but the program reports the link is
not
available

"Are you logged in into a domain (Can you access the server where the
files
should be stored)?"

It is logged into a domain

When accessing the server where the files were supposed to be created
there
are no files... Permissions are correct, full access for the user. The
files
I manually created do show up.

The problem seems to be that the files were never copied to the server.
They seem to be on the notebook and not able to be accessed.

They were originally located in My Documents iin the user's profile.
They
are no longer there but do show up in the offline files folder but
cannot
be
copied or accessed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are you logged in into a domain (Can you access the server where the
files
should be stored)?
If the problem is that you cannot get into the users profile, login
with
another profile, map a network drive with users (the one that is
affected)
credentials and open the folder where the files should be.

Please contact me if I wasn't clear or I misunderstood you.

news I have a Win XP client that became disconnected from the network
shortly after it was set to move the My Documents to a server share.
Somehow this appears to have caused an error with offline files.
When
you being up the offline folder on the client you can see the files
but they can't be opened. If you try to sync them it gives an error
on every file saying it can't copy the file.

I tried to turn file sync on and off and rebooted several times and
still have no access.

Is there a way to recover these files? The user had no backup and
moving them to the share was the attempt to set up the backup.

Thanks
