Hi all,

How can I make Windows XP not restart by itself when logging off, shutting down or restarting?

Expected result: The computer should either log off, shut down or restart.
Actual result: The login screen says "Saving your settings..." and disappears and restarts itself.

I had this problem after installing a particular security update on a
Gateway XP system, OH, so many years ago. The update offered free
support from MS if things witn awry.

The MS engineers in India could not solve the problem.

I sat here, observing what they did and how the system reacted.
Thinking outside the box, which actually was simply wonder what would
happen if...

I swapped ethernet cards, no more problem.

I have no idea why.
