Yes, although even conventional oil technology has improved dramatically.
You get a narrower range of molecular weights and way better viscosity
improvers than you did even back in the nineties. So oil that does not
turn to putty in the cold. Synthetic technology makes it even better.

Add in fuel injection and you get a far more pleasant starting experience.
