If you are using XP it should have Outlook Express installed. I use
that on several XP VMs and it works fine with Gmail.

I'll check into that.

How do I find my incoming and outgoing email server names and types? Need
this to set up Outlook Express. Where can I look?

If you've been using Thunderbird (until it decided to fail), they will
be shown in there - under Account Settings I think. (Some of the terms
used may be different.) Note that TB stores its incoming and outgoing
settings in different places.

They have a video here, but I'm not a big fan of videos when
you're trying to set stuff up.

The IMAP/POP3 section for outgoing, would be in the specific account
section. The SMTP might be held separately on the screen, near the
left column, at the bottom.

Here's an IMAP for gmail.

The SMTP are in a table here. At one time, you would
only use your ISPs SMTP (port 25), but these are showing
the usage of the email service SMTP on port 465 (encrypted).

You can enter the "account details" when running the new version
of Thunderbird and then verify the settings afterwards when
the account is showing in the left pane. Use the auto-setup
in other words, but still verify whether the details are
the same as before.
