Hi David,
Well, I suppose the lack of any boot.ini could cause the error as well =
(this file tells the bootloader where to look for the OS). Normally it =
is attributed to a bad arc path. My best *guess* at this point would be =
to have you rebuild the boot.ini file using bootcfg /rebuild from a =
command prompt while booting the CD.

Hi David,

It is a hidden system file on the root of the boot partition.

Hi,
The stop error usually indicates a problem with boot.ini, you might =
want
to
try editing it from a command prompt to make sure the path is =
correct.

Hi everyone:
I received the above error six times when trying to upgrade my
Windows
2000 Professional SP3 WD 60GB drive to Windows XP Professional. I =
tried
the
upgrade running it from within Windows 2000 Professional, then =
tried it
using the CD-Rom boot function. Any time I tried an upgrade it =
failed.
During the upgrade process, twice I saw Windows say it could =
not
load
device drivers for "System" and showed an icon of a desktop PC and
monitor.
The odd thing about this is when I blanked the drive (I had a =
full
Norton Ghost image of my Win2KSP3) and installed Windows XP =
Professional
as
a new install, the process worked fine. Windows XP Professional =
was
running
clean on my desktop.
Any ideas on what could be holding me up? I ran the =
configurator
from
Microsoft, removed any programs or modules or printers which would =
be a
problem, but still could not upgrade this drive.
It is a Intel P3 running at 667Mhz/133 with 513MB ram and 60GB =
hard
disk.
Thanks...Dave
