Hi Cindy,
As Nicholas stated, it is unwise to delete the folder, however if you =
burn it to CD for safekeeping and later use, yes it is ok. The folder is =
not accessed in normal operation, just in recovery operations.

Thanks Rick - much appreciated - If I have my original XP CD, can I =
delete
this folder safely then re-download the SP??

Alternatively, can I burn the c:\I386 onto a CD?

Altrenative 2, have I, in some way, mis-applied some service pack to =
create
this directory? I did another check on Technet but figured that I =
followed
everything correctly.

Kind regards to you nick for your very helpful advice.

Hi Cindy,

Leave that folder alone. It contains your backup system files, likely =
placed
on the hard drive so that you can access them if needed by your system
makers recovery software. If you need to replace a system file, or if =
one is
needed to be added to the system, you will need that folder, as the =
files in
the recovery software are not likely to be directly accessible =
otherwise.
SP1 does not replace ALL system files, just certain ones.
