According to https://www.skype.com/en/, if you click on the "system
requirements" link just below the "Download" button (link takes you
to https://go.skype.com/support.system.requirements), it still runs
on "Windows XP SP3 (32-bit and 64 bit versions supported) - see note
below", so that download ought to be OK. (The "Note below" says "If
you're using Windows XP SP3, make sure you're using Internet
Explorer 8 or higher.")

You're welcome; sorry it didn't work. When you say "didn't work", what
happened? (Reply here not to me; I still haven't got 6, 7, _or_ 8 to
work on this Windows 7 machine - "Skype can't connect" - despite it
working fine on another 7 machine right next to it. If you reply here,
saying what happened, someone else may know the cure.)

I've read that MS do not want to make it easy for XP users.
Went to the Skype site and downloaded a much earlier version. Oh yes, they
want to give me all these wonderful free tools that will scan, fix and make
my computer as fast as lightening. Click on decline on every wonderful
offer. The earlier version did not work. Nothing happened.
Did a scan. Loads of spyware and nine PUPs. Sod this for a game of
soldiers.
