Default Device keeps trying to install on every boot even if marked not to

I have a HP desktop PC running XP professional version 2002 SP3.
Every single time I boot or reboot the PC, I am told that I have a
new device called "printer" and it tries to install the drivers for
it. And every time, it fails.

Needless to say, the three printers I have hooked up are installed
and working fine.

I have checked the box "not to check for the device", but it still
checks everytime. And there are no "?" devices in Device
Manager....

What can I do to stop this? It's very annoying !!

"the three printers I have hooked up are installed and working fine."

Possible correction: the three printers you have hooked up are [likely
partially] installed and [doing whatever *you* want them to do] fine. ;-)

My suggestion is fairly simple and straight-forward. Visit the
manufacturer's web site for the three printers (why three, BTW - idle
curiosity?) and download the latest drivers for each printer and install
each of the drivers/software for each of them (just drivers if you can get
away with it.) Worst thing - nothing changes - but you end up with the
latest drivers.

Also - do you scan for spyware/adware/malware? These are not the same as
viruses/trojans/worms and although there is cross-over - most tools that
have historically been antivirus are not so good at antimalware.
