I was going to write you back using the thorn symbol, but
I would have to switch to HTML to do so.

Ascii 232 is capital thorn "Þ". Never
found an ascii ye
Capital Eth Ð Alt-0208; Capital Thorn Þ Alt-0222; small eth ð Alt-0240;
small thorn þ Alt-0254.
BUT: those aren't really ASCII, which only goes to 127 (7F), though the
next 128 are often referred to as "extended ASCII", but don't display
the same to all; and, they may get corrupted as they pass through
various parts of usenet, and news client software. They may get
converted to a sequential representation of their code in printable
characters (0xFF, $255, A$255, etc.), to different characters, to pairs
of different characters, to a common "unknown character" character (a
square or question mark are common), or to nothing at all.
Þshurely someone could use that in a smiley (8Þ =8-?
