Default System restore

Do you have any antiviral programs running? I know Symantec/Norton A/V's can stop you from doing a system restore without going through some steps.

Now I am having problems. For one, I cannot install the Windows update
"Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892).

I Googled the error message but my machine does not have any SQL
servers inactive.

I am one-cut above neophyte.

I have tried to use System Restore, but my machine will not allow me to do
that.

Shall I reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on top of what I have to fix
the registry?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Tom
