Unfortunately, this new machine came with SP2 pre-installed, so I couldn't

I've read several complaints about this problem in various forums, but I

purchasing a print server device help?

I desperately need an answer, so thanks in advance!

Dear Warren,

I have also come across the same problem,
On my XP Pro SP1 box, printing to both Samba shared printers and WIN98 shared printers, I used to get a 10 second delay on opening the print properties window.
On an XP Pro SP2 box, delays of about 20-40 seconds.

I have been able to fix this problem by turning off bi-directional support on the shared printers.

To do this goto the printer properties , click on the "Ports" tab, and uncheck the "Enable bidirectional support" check box.

then click ok.

See if that helps.
