I was told once to:
DesktopComputer(right click) Manage
then some more. BUT
Perhaps I somenow (certainly not intentionally) lost "Computer" .
I have no "Computer" on the desktop.
Try
control userpasswords2
and see if the control panel that pops up has a tick box for
login removal.
The only picture I could find, was in German.

mussen benutzernamen und kennwort eingeben = need to enter user name and password
So that tick box should be the one.
Another thread here, on the topic of passwords.

There is a tutorial here on desktop icons for Windows 8.
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html
The icon the procedure puts back is "Computer", not "My Computer".
And the icon to expect, can be seen here.

When you open the Windows 8 "Computer", it looks like this.
It's not exactly the same as "My Computer" on WinXP.

They make Explorer replacements, but personally I won't be testing
a ton of these and messing up my OS. Even on my Windows 8.1 preview
disk.
