Hi
Win7 Home Premium or whatever it's called.

When I open a folder of jpegs for editing, clicking one opens Paint
Shop Pro and displays the image. Clicking on another file opens another
instance of PSP rather than a new image in the already open instance.
The latter is how it worked in XP the former makes working with
multiple images impossible.
What do I have to do to make subsequent files use the already open
instance of an application?

thanks

The handler for a filetype dictates how it will manage its windows for
multiple file opens.Â* Look in PSP for an option regarding multiple
windows.

https://www.google.com/search?q=pain...iple%20windows

Â*From that online search, looks like this is a long-time screwup in PSP
where its installer does not add the /DDE command line switch to the
registry entry where PSP is designated as the filetype handler (for
whatever are those filetypes you are double-clicking in Windows
Explorer).Â* Most users figured out how to get the /DDE switch added by
using the GUI wizards in Windows where some just decided to edit the
registry entry for the filetype handler.

I don't use PSP so there would be no registry entries for filetype
handlers for me to look at to see how the 'Open' directive was defined
within them (i.e., what command line was defined to handle the Open
action on a filetype, like "program %1 /dde").

Look at these two programs:
http://defaultprogramseditor.com/
and
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html

I've used them both (each has it's good points) to change launching of
programs.Â* I think the default programs editor is the one I'm thinking
of that does just as VanguardLH spoke about, yet GUI.

Between them I like to have a difference between open and edit for
things like png files.Â*Â* Open would launch a viewer but edit would
launch photoshop.Â*Â* One of them allowed you to export the registry entry
so you could keep them in case of a reload, a nice feature.

Of course you know have to know how and what to edit in the launch
command to get it working if that's the fix.
