Default Files open programs not reuse windows

When I open a folder of jpegs for editing, clicking one opens Paint
Shop Pro and displays the image. Clicking on another file opens another
instance of PSP rather than a new image in the already open instance.

I have PSP 5 and 16. I don't see that option
in either one. If I open 2 files I get the same thing
you see: 2 PSPs.

But why are you double-clicking the 2nd file in
the first place? Just drag-drop it into the PSP
window. If you don't like that then browse for
it via File - Open.

I actually like to have right-click menus. I put
Open with PSP on the right click and set IrfanView
as default for all image types. That way I have
a small, quick viewer when I want to see an
image and it's still easy to open it in PSP.

If you're comfortable with the Registry you
can deduce the format for custom context
menus from this:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Open With PSP]
@="Open with PSP"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Open With PSP\Command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Paint Shop Pro 5\\psp.exe\" \"%1\""

* applies to all files. *\shell\ exists already
by default. The value of the next step
down is what you'll see on the context menu.
The default value in the Command key is
the command line to send to the program.
(Without the extra backslashes.)

"C:\Program Files\Paint Shop Pro 5\psp.exe" "%1"

You can do that for any program.... But once
you have the program open, nearly all will accept
a drag/dropped file in the main window.

Thanks.

Been using PSP since 5 and loved my 7. In fact, the reason I held onto
XP for so long was that I have a bazillion plugins that I'll not locate
again. Have 16 but hate it... just seems Corel watered it down in spite
of making it look all glitzy. I do a lot of photo editing and
manipulating and know that my way of bouncing around from folder to
folder telling it to open this and that simultaneous wouldnt make sense
to folks who dont look for 'parts' for compilations and such, but it's
how I've learned to flow. Oh well... looks like it's 16 until I get on
to some other app. Don't really want to learn any new stuff any more
but if I don't have the plugins anyhow... I guess I may as well start
over.

Really didn't want to get into the registry. Getting old and tired of
farting around with this stuff. XP and the setup I had just worked but,
oh, well.
