Default Windows Update

try the wsus offline update tool.... google it and then search for youtube
videos on how to use it.... basically it downloads all the windows updates
and allows you to install them offline. it is a godsend for doing new clean
installs as you can do all the updates at one time from a usb thumbdrive
instead of using the built in ms update... also I had to disable bitdefender
and windows firewall onetime for update to work......also if you have a lot
of updates you will have to start the update and leave your computer alone
for as much as 24 hours... no kidding.. it can take that long for a lot of
updates... I once had a computer stuck on like 80% for 6 hours and then I
just let it run over night and when I got up the next day it was
done......hope this helps...

For several months I have not been able to install the Window updates
(/windows 8.1). When I attempt to do an update (currently 87
outstanding) it does the download, appears to do the installation, then
asks for a restart. After about an hour or it gets to 67% completed
then finally indicates that it could not do the install and will undo
what changes it has made them when I restart I am back to where I
started - no updates installed.

This same process happens each time I try to do an update.

Any idea what could be happening?
