Default messenger 's constant access attempt

Thanks Jonathan!

Before receiving your reply, I simply removed the
contents from the messenger folder into another folder.
Upon reboot, Norton AV threw up a nag box. Unchecking
messenger protection from Norton AV and returning
messenger program files to the original folder ended this
problem. Thanks again!

Greetings Tetawon,

Actually Messenger on its own won't do this. Do you have

Norton Antivirus installed? Recent
versions of Norton Antivirus added a new "instant

messaging scanning" feature, which can
conflict with Windows Messenger and cause it to display

this behavior. To stop it, open
Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus

icon in the System Tray/Notification
Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),

click Options, then Instant Messenger
then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

I have XP Home and Windows Messenger 4.7.0041. I
discovered that messenger does not actually uninstall

in
the add/remove option, as just removes the selection

from
the startup menu.

The problem is that messenger continually attempts
accessing the internet, filling up my firewall alert
activity logs. How do I stop this constant attempt by
messenger to access the internet or remove messenger

from
my pc?

Thanks,

.
