Most mains-USB power supplies are able to accept a variety of voltages
ranging from US 110 V 60 Hz to European 220 or 240 V 50 Hz. You'll need a
mains plug adaptor to match the plug on the power supply to the various
power sockets found in different European countries. If you are buying the
GPS in a country that uses 110 V (eg USA) make sure the adaptor can accept
220 V: I think some US equipment tends to be 110 V only, whereas equipment
sold in Europe tends to be multi-voltage (220 V, obviously, but additionally
110 V).

Some years ago, my wife and I did a tour of the UK and Europe in a
campervan and we had similar requirements for charging USB devices
(including phones) as Peter requires for his Europe trip.

We purchased a universal USB charger which included four
interchangeable mains plugs (for UK, EU, US, and AU/NZ) and the
charger had four USB sockets for connecting various devices.

Before I responded to Peter, I used the search argument "universal
mains usb charger" and noted that it was a valid Google argument for
searching for his power requirements - which he can buy on Ebay or
possibly from a store that sells SATNAVs.
