Default XP online activation - what's the latest situation?

Well, then what about Win3.11, Win95, Win98, Win98SE, etc etc ad nauseum?

Everything before W/XP had no "activation" or hardware ID testing.
If you had a code that worked, you were good to go forever.
XP was the first one that had a defacto expiration date, the date they
would no longer activate it.

Just read the rather long TOS. Mine's in Portuguese, but there
is NO EXPIRATION DATE for activating XP. Not on my Win XP PRO.
IOW, you bought it, it's yours.
Like buying a can of meat. There's an expiry date, but that's
for the warranty and "support". You can still legally eat it after
that date. Any eventual botulism is on you.
