E.H., I think I can help clear up your confusion. As with an automobile, virtually anyone can buy and attempt
to use a computer. However, without a certain degree of knowledge, the purchaser will be at the mercy of
service providers when it comes to proper maintenance and repair.

S.N., Y'know what, as I was typing that I thought "hmm, this sounds a
lot like owning a car..." weird. I hope I'm not turning into you.

The horror :-)

I still can't get over the feeling that this would all be so much easier
if we still got a disc with our machines.

I have 5 laptops here at home, and many more at the community centre. I
have everything but Vista installed on one or more of them so I suppose
it's a case of figuring out best practice for each release and writing
something up that I can hand to people when it all goes horribly wrong.
I think I'll ignore the vendor specific stuff and just concentrate on
what comes with Windows to start with. Maybe it's time for one of the
older machines to make the ultimate sacrifice and become my test bed.

I wouldn't have to do this if the blasted things came with a bloody DISC
though would I?

Grrrrrr.
