Also, do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a
new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to
also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus
icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),
click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

If you'd prefer to just remove Windows Messenger however, you can do so by following the
instructions he

Hi Jonathan,

I have also been experiencing a similar problem. However, by disabling the
IM protection of Norton, am I not opening myself up to viruses that someone
can transmit to me via MSN Msger?

Another problem I am experiencing in addition to Msger 7.5 being
"interrrupted" is other people seeing my Msger as being active even when my
PC isn't even on. I *do not* have Msger enabled at startup; I prefer to
manually start up MSN Msger when I want to use it. Additionally, I have
removed Windows Msger as I use Outlook, not Outlook express and it is
functioning fine without the Win Msger.

Thanks for you feedback,
