Default No Sound When Modem Is Dialing?!?

I had this happen on a W98 system after letting Adaware & Nortons
loose on a badly infected system - found heaps of spyware which it
removed. Nortons also found some problems and it deleted some files.

Try deleting the modem and reinstalling it.

Yes..........the speakers are external and they are plugged into the correct
jacks, nothing has changed there. I can hear everything else except when
the modem dials out. Too weird for words. I guess I should be glad that AT
LEAST I am able to dial out and connect fine. I just miss not hearing it
"do it's thing"!!! LOL

Did you hear it through external speakers? A silly idea (that happened
to me last week). Make sure that the speakers are plugged in to the
correct jack on you PC.

Hi Robert:

I checked and the speaker volume is on high. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Under device manager click on properties for the modem. Under the

Modem
Tab check the speaker volume slide bar.

I have Windows XP, Home Edition. I was able to hear my modem

dialing out
through the speakers, until just a few days ago. I am sure

something got
changed but I am not sure what. I checked to be sure the little

box was
still checked for "enable modem speaker", under the "Modem

Configuration"
folder. The speakers are working just fine. What else am I

missing here?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Shelly
