If your machine is a Compaq then you should get your display drivers
from the HP/Compaq website and not from ATI.

HP/Compaq purchases ATI video chips in bulk quantities and then
fabricates these into their own motherboards, with some modifications.
Hopefully the updated drivers from HP/Compaq will resolve your issues.
