Thanks for trying, but as I said, I already tried MS's autofix.exe
("AutoPlay Repair Wizard"). I tried it several times to make sure I
had run it correctly. It did not fix my problem.

Anyone else? I've already wasted a few hours on this problem. I kept
hoping it would be an easy solution once I found out what to fix. My
next step is to start over and completely re-install XP. Since this
is a relatively fresh install and I have other computers to assist,
it's not that big of a deal, just a few more hours work. I've had to
install almost every other MS OS more than once to get it work so it's
really not that big a surprise.
