Will this optical drive read ANY DVD or CD?

reading the dvd, which works in my son-in-law's computer at his help. it
appears all is configured well on my computer, but to have someone walk me
through the steps or if there is an obvious correction to be made and i
can
be advised on what to do to watch the dvd, that would be great Thank you
