Default weather gadget disabled

Since 3 days the (live info of) weather gadged on my Windows 7 PC seems to
be disabled. I believe it is an MS gadget. When I click the location link,
the browser opens on http://www.msn.com/nl-nl/weer/vandaag/etc. (removed for
privacy)
and I get the weather info on line.
I have the same weather gadget on my other computer running Vista and this
still works OK.
The only cause I can think of is Windows Defender which is installed and
updated on Windows 7 PC and which is not on Vista PC. Could this be
preventing the gadged to work properly?

Changing the intervals seems to be a temporary fix.

Someone tried changing them again when it broke,
and got it working again.

Thanks. However instead of messing with parameters I looked under Gadgets
and I found another one (which looks very alike) and this one seems to work!
It uses the link yr.no

It's "screwed". You can get it to work again but it'll just mess up
again. I switched to the Weather Network gadget. Gives even more info.

I can find an item by that name, here.

http://gadgetsrevived.com/3016/

And it mentions pulling the weather from yr.no.

That's the Norwegian weather service. I use a page
from there too, when I need snowfall estimates for Canada!
Our weather service seems to hold onto precipitation
estimates, like it was a "state secret" :-) Only
occasionally will our service list snowfall amounts.
I rely on the Norwegians, to keep me informed. The
weather page on yr.no lists precip in "water equivalents",
so if you see 1mm precip, then that would be 1cm snow
(multiply by 10). The factor 10 is not precise, as
it would depend on the kind of snow falling. But it
gives you some idea. For example, I know I will be
shoveling snow on Tuesday.

Yes that's what I also wrote in my reply of 28-02-2015 16:34 :-)
Apart from the e-mail address the gadget doesn't show any web link. No idea
where I got it from long time ago on the PC. Entering 'Weather Forecast
Bjorn Stensrud' in Google you can find versions on different places but they
might contain unwanted malware I think.
I use another gadget (Dutch) for the clouds formations which move (live)
over the country.

We had only a little snow a few weeks ago, but I don't expect any more from
now on. I use the gadget mainly for a quick glance at the temperature, to
know if I need my coat when going to the supermarket.

Ciao,

Actually, the worst snowfalls in our country,
are not in the most northerly parts.

In the middle of Canada, is an area called
the "snow belt". Lake-effect snow falls there.
I worked with someone who grew up in that area,
and he recounts driving down the highway, at 10 MPH,
with the car door open, while looking for the yellow line
on the road. Because there was a white-out and you
could not see anything. So that's what living in
a certain part of the middle of Canada is like.
He used to drive on some of those roads, after
they were closed by the police.

On the east coast, Newfoundland receives punishing
snowfall. If you have two doors on your house,
the back door could have a snow drift, right up
to the roof. Some people there, have had to
exit their house, by climbing out a window
(either first floor or second floor window,
just so they can get to the front of the house
and start shoveling. You could go to sleep,
and wake up the next day, trapped in your house.
Naturally, you have to be physically fit, to live
in such a place.

This province is on the East coast, but should not
be as bad as Newfoundland (flash video from Feb.18).

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince...-car-1.2961293

My snow here, is nothing like this. No big storms.
I've been lucky this year. Just very cold here.
Almost all our snow was dry powder (so far). The
"concrete" snow comes later. I don't have
to dig a tunnel to get to my car.

I'm using just enough of my driveway to get car into. Just too much snow
for me at 64 to keep up shoveling this year. I'm walking on a couple of
feet of snow on way and back to woodpile. It's hardened right over, not
quite ice but close to it. Middle of NS, Canada here. Roads are
horrendous. There will be lots of front end parts sold this year I'm
willing to bet.

A train just went by there, but there were no oil tanks ?

*******

Try a couple of these. This one is pretty tame.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitche...-ont-1.2963159

This one is better. The train engineer can't even see
the road he's driving. This one is an oil train, lots
of tank cars with crude in them. I guess car drivers
had better pay close attention to the lights and
barriers, because the driver is unlikely to see
anything.

See the article on Lac Megantic to see what's
become of rail transport here.

Well, I wouldn't be physically fit enough (anymore) for that. I'd aproach
the problem with a hot air cannon or something...

I have also tried to modify the values of the cache, however the meteo works
until the computer is turned on.
When the pc is turned off, and you decide turn on again later, for example
after one or two days, the meteo it doesn't connect it, and you need to
change again the values in the cache.
Beautiful think , it would be if someone knew whether to make to
automatically modify them to every reboot of pc !

Thanks Fabrizio

It's just a text file, so it's a good candidate for a script that runs
during boot or user login. I believe we have some scriptwriters here in the
group, or you could visit a group where they specialize in such things.
