I followed the instructions and it said it would
give me the option of re-installing malwarebytes
afterward but it hasn't.

Also, the premium version on the Dell 780 just
expired. I'm still able to do a scan on it but
would appreciate a clean link for the 8500 because
it's gone.

Thanks,
Robert

I installed Malwarebytes again but the pop-up
returned.

I still think this is weird. I also had a trial
version of premium on the 780 which just expired
and it doesn't do this. It just has pop-up's which
notified me that the premium expired and I clicked
the box saying I don't need real time protection.
Then it lets me do a scan.

The thing is I've done this before. Why does it keep
returning? Should I turn off 'Show notifications when
real time protection settings are turned off'?

I'm wondering why this started in the first place.
I may just look into changing the drive letters after
all.

I just thought of something,....if I change
my drive/volume letters won't that mess up
my backups? On second thought,. I can live
with the annoyance but I still think it's
weird that it just started doing this all on
it's own.

Thanks,
Robert

The Malwarebytes people could fix their code.

What I can't figure out, is why they don't fix it.

It should be pretty obvious, the mistake they're making.
It's a removable device, and you can check whether media
is present or not.

Yeah, I know a rootkit could be present. The rootkit
could be hiding the media which is really present.
And so on. But they should be scanning for a rootkit
first - when the machine is found to be clean, then they
can trust the "media is present" flag.

Exactly,.. it's not a good image to project
when your own software is faulty.

I started doing my monthly backups and before I do I
always runs all the scans first and make a restore point.

When I opened Malwarebytes on the 8500 it had the same pop-up
error but the 780 had none and opened normally yet both had the
free trial premium offer and both expired but only the 8500 has
this pop-up error.

Why is one computer affected and not the other?

Do they both have card readers on the front of the computer ?

If the 780 didn't have a card reader, or if it did
have a card reader and the cabling was disconnected,
then you wouldn't expect Malwarebytes to trip over it.

Ahhh that's the difference,.. the 780 just has
USB port but no card readers.

Maybe someday Malwarebtyes will fix this.

Did all the scans and made a restore point and
did my Mrimg backups.

problem on their end.

Well,.. today everything is working fine,....

I thought I would share malwarebytes response:

Hi Robert*,

I'm happy to hear that this is resolved. I'm sorry that you got that message, I have seen that before, but it's a Windows issue that we don't have any control over. Sounds like the latest Microsoft update or maybe a simple reboot was able to correct it. I'm going to close out this ticket.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thank you,

I always run Windows update and I just
checked and everything is up to date
but guess what? The pop-up has returned.

So how could it be Windows and I've already
rebooted a couple of times today.

Do you regularly use the 4-in-1 card reader on
your 8500 ? Maybe you could just plug the cable
for it, inside the tower or something.

For my SD card, I use a USB stick with an SD slot
on it. That's my reader. It is only plugged in,
when I'm using it.

I do not understand what you mean of
plugging what cable where?

I do the same exact thing with my SD
slot and use a USB stick from my camera
to upload pictures.

Then I click to safely unplug it, that's
all.

I regularly check for Windows updates
but I ran it after receiving his message
just to make sure and my Windows is up
to date.

That was a typo.

I was suggesting unplugging the card reader
in the 8500, so Malwarebytes could no longer see it.

If you're using an external USB stick for your
SD, then you might not need the function of the
internal 4-in-1 card reader.
