Erunt
I cannot get Erunt to work on my Win7 HP 64bit PC.
I get the message that says "Unable to create file" C:\Windows\EDRNT\2-16-2015\EDRNT.INF. I thought I did it before. Any ideas? Buffalo PS: I have the latest version or ERUNT. |

Buffalo PS: I have the latest version or ERUNT. FYI: I used ERUNT for years, but switched to RegBackup. RegBackup uses Volume Shadow Copy for backing up the registry, which unlike ERUNT that uses the RegSaveKey API, is a safer alternative at getting uncorrupted backups and is recommended as the only backup method by Microsoft since Windows XP. While ERUNT still works *most* of the time, it isn’t always successful at grabbing user registry hives, and corruption in the backup hives can occur, leaving you with a worthless backup. RegBackUp is free and can be downloaded from the following link; http://www.tweaking.com/content/page...ry_backup.html -- Sir_George |

Well, I just dl'd and reinstalled it again and now it works!! No idea why, but happy enough. Probably permissions temporarily screwed up. It happens during installs. You might be able to trace the issue in event viewer if you have a few hours and if you care. If it ever happens again, try opening a text file in Notepad and saving it as "edrnt.inf" in the appropriate place. Type a single space in the file if you prefer, before saving it. That way you *should* have permission for the installer to do its stuff. Alternatively, open the download as Admin. Or, as you did, just start from scratch. Sometimes the simple things *do* work. J. If you go to the Erunt website, it says: ERUNT and NTREGOPT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) This page answers some of the most commonly asked questions I get via e-mail regarding ERUNT and NTREGOPT. So before contacting me, please look here first if your question is already answered. Question: Do ERUNT and NTREGOPT run on Windows 7? Answer: ERUNT and NTREGOPT in their current versions 1.1j are still compatible with Windows 7, but as in Vista, they will only work correctly if you turn off User Account Control in Windows' Control Panel (move the slider to the lowest position). Also, a problem has been discovered which on many systems causes ERDNT and NTREGOPT to display a "RegSaveKey: 3" error when optimizing / restoring the BCD00000000 hive. The cause is that after a clean install of Windows 7, the BCD part of the registry which contains Windows' boot configuration data resides on a hidden system partition with no drive letter assigned in Explorer. You can simply ignore this error and continue, or as a workaround, open Disk Managemant in Control Panel and right-click on the partition displayed as "System Reserved" to assign a drive letter. Future versions of ERUNT and NTREGOPT will of course have these issues fixed. Keep an eye on my homepage for updates. Another option, would be to move the contents of System Reserved to the main C:, so your install becomes a one-partition install. This is not compatible with BitLocker full disk encryption, but for a lot of people, is not a big deal. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=409 I managed to get that right on the very first try :-) A miracle. And since I didn't trust my skills, I made a full backup before doing it. The reason I removed System Reserved, is I needed another partition, and I'd "run out". Paul |
