Is there a way to force the new Snip Tool in
rectangular mode, to select an area of fixed
ratio? Like A4? (2:3)

Don't think so, there's not even a way to capture a single window
(unlike Alt-PrtSc and the 'old' snipping tool)

Like A4? (2:3)

Make that 1:√2

if it's not in the menu, you can't do it.

But you're right, it would a great improvement. It would have to be
combined with the ability to slide the snip window around after sizing
it, which in itself would be an improvement.

Maybe there's a utility that will do that. Maybe somebody knows about it...

:-)

Hmmm. Kreskin flips over the final card.
"Is it Irfanview ?" Kreskin then walks around
the auditorium, looking for his check. (Kreskin
is apparently still alive, and is probably lost
in that auditorium, looking for his check.)

Or, 1:SQRT(2) for the benefit of those whose newsreaders are
not set up to display Unicode characters like √ (square root).

Peter - A4 is *not* 2:3, it is approximately 2:2.8284... or 1:SQRT(2)

....uh, well I thought it was. PShop has a
''crop'' adjustable to fixed ratios like 6:4 for
standard kiosk photo. I had better check the A4
business. Anyway the New Snip fails on the
cropping. Thanks to all.

I think Paul is now owed that check from The Amazing Kreskin!

Irfanview can snap a fixed (given) X:Y location on the desktop.

Yes, but that is the "old" snipping tool, Win10 1809 introduces a "new"
snippping tool Win+shift+S that has only Rectangular, Free-form and
Full-screen options.

Hopefully they will add the "Window" option to the new one before they
remove the old one.
