If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10 using a USB or DVD, you can use the media creation tool below to create your own installation media with either a USB flash drive or a DVD. The tool provides file formats optimized for download speed and can be used to create ISO files. /qp The bad part is it doesn't tell you what version it is. You have to assume that you're getting the latest, which hasn't always been the case. Any way to verify the version BEFORE downloading the .iso? The media created by the MCT was updated and released to the public at the same time as Version 1511, Build 10586.x - i.e. the tool doesn't need to change, it gets the updated bits when used Hi Winston, A Work Around: I am using Firefox for Linux. I hit the download button and up Popped the name and asked me where to save it. Windows FF acts exactly the same way. The name was: Win10_1511_English_x64.iso Which gives you the version (1151) and the bits (x64). Just press "Cancel" if you don't want to save it. -T Hummmmmm. The buzzard won't do and upgrade when booted from the iso. You have to boot normal and then run the upgrade from the mounted iso. It is what it is. :'( |

I was told to use Linux to download the full iso which can then be saved on your machine and you can use any iso burner to create your own DVD. Also, using Linux saves you from Microsoft creating anything else hidden from you although I don't know if hidden BT folder is still being created by Microsoft. In Linux Microsoft can't do anything like that AFAIK. Ubuntu people suggested this to me. Hi Linux User, Just because I am nosey, if you are running Linux, why are you screwing around with Windows Nein? I have to because I need to learn the stinker so I can support my customers. I only open my Windows virtual machines when I need to research something or support my customers on something. Got two XP VM's which I run Go To Assist from. Other than that, I do not do any work in my Windows VM's. I keep gold copies of my XP hard drive so when they do the Windows thing, I just restore their hard drives. Takes about five minutes. And Citrix (Go To Assist) has promised me a Linux port some time soon. -T |

The buzzard won't do and upgrade when booted from the iso. You have to boot normal and then run the upgrade from the mounted iso. It is what it is. :'( Correct. Just like the W10 RTM free pgrade...run the qualifying o/s then mount the iso and run setup.exe (or run setup.exe on the usb or dvd created by the MCT). In the case of the 'new' Win10 - boot Win10 10240, mount the 1511/10586 iso and run setup (or run setup on the cd or dvd created by the MCT) When using a non qualifying o/s and/or browser - the MCT page just provides the iso. Fyi == It is version 1511 g The dialog box showing version and build can be viewed via command prompt by entering winver and pressing the enter key. On W10 Pro and Win10 Home (after the upgrade) the dialog box shows - Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.3). It will also show 'This product is licensed....to:...." -- ....winston msft mvp consumer apps |

It already has. I installed it on my Windows machine to be with the crowd. You need to use Linux to download a the full DVD which can then be installed in offline. No need for Internet and corruptions that goes with it. I attempted to update my test system yesterday via the media creation tool, but am still at build 10240. (I used to tool to flash a USB drive and ran the installation from that to attempt the upgrade.) Guess I'll have to wait a while and give it another try. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roger Blake (Change "invalid" to "com" for email. An alternate approach is to use the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO file and burn that to a DVD. With the DVD in the drive, use your file manager to navigate to the DVD and click on Setup.exe and then follow the prompts. About 30-40 minutes later, you should be running build 10586. Good luck, |

Do you get an error messages? It's no good simply saying "it didn't work " because it means absolutely nothing to us without the error message or any other information you get on the screen. -- /*This post contains rich text (HTML). if you don't like it then you can kill-filter the poster without crying about it like a small baby so that you don't see this poster's posts ever again.*/ /*This message is best read in Mozilla Thunderbird as it uses 21st century technology.*/ |

I'll try it again with the newest version. https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-download/windows10 Download the newest MCT and "Create installation media for another PC." The resultant ISO file is actually smaller than the previous version. Everyone who is contemplating a clean install at a later date also should obtain the latest MCT and create either a USB or ISO file/DVD. (There's still a considerable amount of online activity installing and/or upgrading using this method.) BTW, a lot of Win10-ers could gain access and/or insight by simply navigating via the Start button to "Settings" | "Update & Security" |"Windows Update" | ... If the version 1511, build 10586.11 upgrade is still pending - or in progress - you might click either the "Check for Updates" or "Install Now" or "Retry" button. It's quite a long process to both download (~3.67 GB) and then install this update/upgrade. Might be a good time to backup image your present system before embarking on the upgrade, if you're using that option. -- I AM Bucky Breeder, (*(^; and, It's like Yogi Berra, RIP 9/22/2015, always used to say: "The future ain't what it used to be!" http://i.imgur.com/f193YWS.jpg?1 |
