Default Win 10 Update Issue

I hate the MSFT policy, that I MUST accept all of their updates!!
Today, I had a ~1/2 hour update. Upon rebooting, I have a new issue.

When I left click my Win 10 start (that may be wrong term, I mean the
lower laft icon with 4 slanted boxes) I no longer get my prior menu -
ala installed programs etc.

How can I restore that "start" icon?

What do you get? What type device are you using? 'Which update?' could be
helpful information. If it was performing before the update, it could be a
3rd-party software conflict of some sort. Perhaps you truncated the update
somehow? Use the Notifications icon to access "Settings" then "Update &
Security" then "Windows Updates" then "Advanced Options" then "View your
update history"...

Could be your PC is booting into a wrong user account [ C:\Users ]...

Use the Notifications icon to access "Settings" then "Accounts"...

If all that seems copesetic, have a peruse at these possibles :

stopped-working-here-are-four-ways-to-fix-it-11364000314532

Worst case scenario, you might force a reinstall of the update by direct
downloading it; or, uninstall the offending update, reboot, check it out...
then reinstall it - via the "Settings" then "Windows Updates" interface.

What do you get when you left-click the Start button? Right-click? Do all

I have a desktop, that was updated to WIN 10 a few months ago. I do
not know how to check what MSFT updates were most recently installed.
The at issue update was installed 3 days ago; as it took over 10
minutes to complete the install phase, it may have been for "several
different updates"?

Settings - Update & Security - Advanced Options - View your update history.
