It is not in that link you posted and it was working a couple weeks ago. Microsoft sold me the OS and they did not say there was an expiration date. |

Internet activation was discussed in one of MS newsgroups over the last few months. I forgot which one, probably this one. The issues were about the internet activation servers not working. Perhaps they are back on line now. idk. Phone activation via number entry still worked and probably by voice call to MS, also. I will try again a few times before I just use one of the hacks |

I will try again a few times before I just use one of the hacks It's a few months since I did a virgin XP installation. IIRC, you need IE8 to connect to the activation server - and you can't get IE8 as a matter of course until you get activated! I think the easy solution is to do the XP SP4 installation. https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=XP+SP4+installation&* That said, I think that some of my fairly recent installations have activated as normal (must do another installation to see what happens). -- Ian |

I did one less than a month ago with the IE that loads with SP2. The only thing I can think of that may be different is I had Firefox loaded before I tried the activation. I usually do it as soon as I get the first prompt. I am thinking about wiping out Firefox and trying again. I may try a scratch load with another machine that is already working and I was scrapping anyway. |

Then it sails through using the IE6 that comes with a basic load. I got so wrapped up in tracking down XP drivers for this I5 machine that I forgot to load SP3. |

I'm pretty sure I've had activation problems because the PC time was totally wrong (possibly because I had fitted a new BIOS battery). Presumably I hadn't set it correctly during the installation procedure. Set it more-or-less correctly, and the activation worked. [Or am I mistaken?] -- Ian |

However, I have always used the toll free telephone (automatic) method. John |
