Win.ini was over written
A calculator program overwrote my win.ini and sys.ini. It should have appended it instead. Are those used anymore ? |

I expect some older prog.s will still, if those prog.s work at all under XP. Its a hold-over of Win3.x and older and only programs designed for them use those INI files. Thus they still exist for a modicum of backward compatibility. Win9x/ME and later OS' and compliant programs use the Registry instead. -- Dave Multi-AV Scanning Tool - http://multi-av.thespykiller.co.uk http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |

Since your calculator wrote to it, the answer is obviously "yes." My WIN.INI was modified in November 2012, by what I don't know, and SYSTEM.INI was last modified on in May, 2011. I find backups of both of them in the directory C:\WINDOWS\pss , dated 2006. |
