Default HexEdit?

Hi All,

Any of you guys have a favorite Hex Editor for Windows?

This article seems to have a nice review or them
https://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/05...indows-10.html

XVI32 seems ice and it is protable, so I can run it off a stick.

I mainly want to see, not edit.

Many thanks,
-T

Thank you! I downloaded the Portable edition.

I use HexEdit in Linux a lot to figure out what those stupid
unprintable charters are. Now I can do it in Windows too.

I am gettig good at regexes in Perl too.

If you elevate to Administrator, HxD edits and scans
disk drives at the physical layer. This is handy in
Windows 10, if you see the 16MB partition which isn't
all that visible and doesn't have a file system on it,
and you want to know something about it.

When searching for a short string with HxD, it can
scan at around 600MB/sec.

That test was carried out on a 4GB/sec ramdisk.
The media was not the limiting factor. That's how
I determined the speed of the program.

A single SATA drive would not go fast enough for that test.

An NVMe would be fast enough.

I use XVI32 myself. I stick it in the "send to" menu so I can send any
file to it for inspection.

It also allows you to search and replace blocks of hex, or do it in
characters if you don't need the hex.

Though maybe the page hasn't been updated since last release in 2012?
