printing gaps Epson ESC P2

My new e-machne running Win XP has printing problems.
Does any one know why it intermittently prints horizontal
gaps in the page. Only when there is graphics involved.
Several programs do it. Word 97 seems ok. I have
reinstalled the driver from MS several times. I cannot
used the original disk, I don't know why.
