Default New messenger for XP? Yes? No?

I am new to this group and I would think this would not be news here but you
can prevent messenger service ads with out turning on your firewall. All
you have to do is disable the messenger service in Services. As stated this
has nothing to with Windows or MSN messenger.

Thanks for the reply. The only way of preventing those
messenger service ads that I was talking about is to run
XP's built-in firewall, however, that hampers my ability
to send files through the file sharing feature of
messenger 4.7. It would be nice to have the next
messenger for XP work along with XP's firewall so that i
can still send files and have the firewall protection
on.... so far I've had to turn off the firewall, then
turn it on again, which is quite cumbersome.

I hope that this suggestion makes it to the messenger 5
for XP, whenever it may me released. Thanks again.

Greetings Vince,

Windows Messenger 5 will come out before Longhorn *grin*.

A new version of Windows Messenger will not "solve" the
Messenger Service ads. The Messenger
Service has absolutely nothing to do with MSN or Windows
Messenger.
