Default external HDD BAD

my external harddrive is apparently BAD when i go on to partition magic is
says it is a bad hdd how can i fix it

You use the diagnostics tool provided by your external or hd manufacturer,
if that reports the drive has failed, well you need to replace it

i have it pluged in to a USB extender (converts one USB port to four(not sure
of the name))

USB extenders as you call them are normally powered seperately via their
own plug (is yours like this?) if not then the chances are it cannot
power the device and needs to go directly into a USB port - I am
guessing that you have the extender as you say only have 2 USB ports and
need 3 or 4 for the devices you use.
If you are to carry on using the extender you will need to unplug all
the devices not needed when you want to use the HDD as it will draw far
too much power from your rails.
