Default Apple (Who really never invented anything they could steal) losespatent retrial, owes $302.4 million to VirnetX.

Apple has been ordered to pay $302.4 million to the patent
holding and security software company VirnetX for infringing
patents covering secure computer and mobile communications.

A jury in Tyler, Texas, found Friday that Apple infringed on two
patents related to its FaceTime videoconferencing application.
The award also includes damages for infringement of VirnetX
technology in Virtual Private Network on Demand.

The verdict was the result of the third trial filed since 2010
against Apple by VirnetX, a company that makes most of its money
from licensing patented technology that creates virtual private
networks over the internet.

A verdict in February ordered Apple to pay VirnetX $625.6
million in damages after two lawsuits were combined. But in
August, a federal judge voided the verdict, saying that
combining two lawsuits into a single trial confused the jurors
and was unfair to Apple. He ruled that both cases needed to be
tried separately.

Apple said it plans to appeal the verdict but declined to
comment further.

Oh no, the sky is falling! : D Corrupt court known for siding with patent
trolls gives Apple a slap on the wrist for doing nothing wrong. $300
million is a drop in the bucket for a company that takes in over $18
billion a quarter. Apple makes enough money in profit to pay this fine in a
couple days. Big deal.

Laughably lame troll brought to you by Fritz Wuehler. Try c.s.m.a. next

To you, maybe not, but to him a huge blow. And I'm happy for you. Maybe
you can get an audience with Tim Cook for all your undying loyalty. Maybe
he will take you out to dinner.

wrong. they pay every penny they're required to pay.

google, microsoft, facebook, intel and many others use the same tax
code in the same way, but as is typical with haters, they get a free

It's accurate. Apple's taxes are mostly paid elsewhere and they've
been avoiding giving the United States even a dime. They went to court
over it near and after Jobs' death and Tim Cook was asked point-blank
why Apple avoids paying taxes in the United States. Try to pause your
fanboyism for a day to look it up.

In your limited opinion...

Apple pays a HUGE amount in taxes, and they use legal means to avoid
paying more than they have to.

'It’s the third thing that’s so interesting though. About this shifting
of cash flows and tax debts through time. Last year Apple made
provisions for tax of $8.283 billion (Provision for income taxes 8,283).
Which was indeed 24.2% of their profits declared in that year. Now, in
this trading year they’ve actually paid over $7.682 billion.'

http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2012/11/01/so-how-much-tax-did-apple-pay/#36b183145fa9

Now let's see a cite for your claim.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them dumb people but they are people
who like the Apple culture, prefer the ease of use right from the moment
they take the system out of the box and so forth.
And Apple support is number one by far.

People are willing to pay extra for that.
That being said, there is nothing magical about Apple hardware or
software for that matter with one exception and that is it is all
controlled tightly (although that seems to be fading a bit with the last
updates) so it tends to work well together.

As long as Apple isn't doing anything illegal, they would be doing their
shareholders a disservice if they were paying more taxes than legally
required.

The same goes for Trump BTW.
What kind of an idiot doesn't try to reduce his taxes LEGALLY by using
every line in the tax code to his advantage?

Every single one of us in USA does it every year.
Key word LEGALLY.

I am not an Apple user (my wife is because two of our kids use facetime).

However, I am grateful to Apple for something they DID 'invent' - CUPS.
The Common Unix Printing System which (as far as I know) every Linux desktop
uses for printing.

No need to thank me

They did *not* invent CUPS. They simply paid for it and its author. And it
is still open source as it was from the start, and they can't change that.
It would simply be forked then
