Default networking two machines

I'm tring to network two machines that consist of Windows
XP and 2000 using a PC to PC parallel file tranfer cable.
When I try to use the Direct Cable Connection Wizard, but
I'm struggling with this and need some help. What do I
need to do? Do I need static ip addresses?

Hello Ben,
Assigning an IP is not a requirement when setting up a Direct Cable
Connection between these two platforms, as APIPA will make sure that an IP
address is assigned when DHCP is not present (DHCP won't be present in this
case). Can you clarify regarding the problem that you are having? You
should set up one machine as host and the other as guest, and then dial
from the guest to the host. Is the problem in setting the connection up,
or in actually connecting?

Thanks,
Terry Barcroft [MSFT]

What do you mean dial from the Guest to the Host? Is this
supposed to be a dialup connection. Basically, what I'm
tring to do is tranfer files between two pc's before this
weekend as I'm leaving for town.

Do you know of any helpful links and tutorials for
something I'm tring to do?
