HP printers and the hardware wizard
I just installed a new HP printer and it works fine
except that the hardware wizard keeps telling me that it does not. I don't really care! All of the functions that are needed work fine. How do I de-activate this darn wizard. HP could not help with this and the new windows downloads did not help either. Mike |

HP printers and the hardware wizard
The usual reason for this bad behaviour is that the wizard did not run
to completion for one reason or another when the printer was first installed. Remove the printer driver using the facilities of Control Panel Printers and faxes. Highlight the printer in the list. Select Delete this printer from the left pane. Do to Control Panel and remove programs and delete any software directly related to the printer. Restart the computer. Most printers will be detected and the driver installed. Follow on-screen prompts. If not, disconnect the printer from the computer. If connected by parallel port, power off the printer, shut down the computer and turn it off before disconnecting the cable. Go to HP's web site, download the latest drivers for the printer and install in accordance with the instructions. Do not reconnect the printer until told to do so by the instructions. Let us know.
