Default Password typing on Windows 8 logon issues

Hello all!

I'm having trouble with Windows 8 login. Can't type password but keyboard
works fine because I can do caps lock, space and other keys. Tried virtual
keyboard but it doesn't work either. When I switch on narrator and type
password letters, narrator says "ocult". I have no usb keyboard to plug if
it would help.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you.

Default Password typing on Windows 8 logon issues

Hi, Shadow.

Have you somehow toggled the login option, so that Win8 is expecting a
numeric PIN, rather than your password?

The login screen - in some modes - will display an "options" line below the
password box. There are two icons; one is a numeric keypad and the other is
a keyboard. If you click the keypad, Win8 expects numerals and won't accept
letters. If you click the keyboard icon, you should be able to login with
your password. (Check your Caps lock, of course.)

As a long-time user of the 10-key numeric pad, I prefer the 4-digit PIN to a
longer password, but YMMV.

(Actually, as the only user of my computer, I've set Win8.1's login options
to let me login without a password, and set Navigation to boot directly to
the Desktop, so I seldom need to enter either password or PIN.)

I didn't switched to PIN logon. The problem is that typing doesn't work. One
occasion tried to write password combining windows key and another special
key with password characters and worked well. But then, when I entered in
Windows, couldn't use keyboard. I don't know if is keyboard driver problem.
Can't enter BIOS or safe mode.

Sounds like the keyboard has gone south. Try a different one.

And for the sake of completeness, I assume that our UK friends would say
that the keyboard has gone west, which sounds really weird and not at all
ominous. :-)

Default Password typing on Windows 8 logon issues

Made windows logon, combining keys. But after a few moments on web, keys
went wrong. I'm always logging off and trying to kill processes to find
which one is responsible for this keyboard malfunction. Another error that
occurs is clicking on metro tile and windows assumes a right click
selection. When trying to open microsoft Word there's an info that I have
Ctrl key on and asking me if I want to open word in safe mode. I've run
antivirus and found nothing. Tried to update driver automatically and
windows tells the best driver is already installed. I don't know what to do.
Can you help me?

I suggest booting into Windows Safe mode and running simple programs,
like Notepad, to see how the keyboard behaves. If it never fails in that
mode, it might be OK. If it does fail there, it might indeed be bad.

OTOH, if you are British and aware of where the US is, west might indeed
seem ominous.

What happened when you tried a different keyboard?

I'm curious, why are you assuming that one of your applications is
interfering with the keyboard? Why can't it be a keyboard issue? Not saying
it is for sure, but it's something I'd try.

LOL Good point. I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if there is some basis
of truth there.

Somehow, I don't think Gene E. Bloch wrote a single word of that.

Thanks for the acquittal!

BTW, I hadn't - and haven't - figured out what Shadow was saying. Some
problem or not, but I'm mystified.
