Followup on USB to Ethernet adapter
Hi All,
I don't remember which group(s) I asked this question on, so I am writing to both. I asked about recommendations for USB to Ethernet adapters for those laptops that no longer come with Ethernet Ports (Yikes!!), which makes for a pain-in-the-butt to configure routers. What worked perfectly for me was https://www.startech.com/Networking-...t~USB31000SPTB I carry the drivers on a flash drive, which I downloaded from the web. If you decide to get one of these or similar, also get you a USB 3.1 to "C" adapter. This is the one I like as it has a little cable to relieve the (Archimedes) lever stress. (The same laptop only had two regular USB and one "C" socket. The adapter came in real handy.) https://www.tripplite.com/support/U42806NF Thank you for all the tips and suggestions! -T |

Why not get it without the USB-C to USB-A adaptor cable? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201404779344 ~$14. I carry a couple of these with me: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222513713498 Handy for when I'm working on a machine where the built-in network drivers are missing or broken. Plug adaptor in, 99% of the time the OS picks it up and installs it and I have access to the internet to fix whatever is broken. -- (\_/) (='.'=) "Between two evils, I always pick (")_(") the one I never tried before." - Mae West |

I was looking for one I could always trust to work on varying systems. And, I got mine wholesale as I have a resellers permit (I have to pay use tax). It was definitely not $45.00. Why not get it without the USB-C to USB-A adaptor cable http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201404779344 ~$14. Interesting. Have you used your a lot in different system? And I would need an adapter from C to USB3, but I carry one of those too. What worked perfectly for me was https://www.startech.com/Networking-...apters/USB-3-G igabit-Ethernet-Adapter-with-USB-Port~USB31000SPTB I carry the drivers on a flash drive, which I downloaded from the web. If you insert that drive into a clients machine that has malware, there's a possibility said executables (which drivers are as well as their installers) could become patched and/or infected. So, not only will you help in spreading the malware to other clients, but, you run the risk of infecting the computer(s) you use to effect 'repairs' thanks to those who answer your questions here. Thank you for all the tips and suggestions! How much money have you made from the tips and suggestions you're thanking people for? Do you sleep well having to pass off knowledgeable peoples advice as your own? Your clients are suckers and you're taking full advantage of it. I bet they think you can fix almost any issue they have, right? Of course you can, you pick the brains of those of us who actually do have a technical background and know what we're doing. I think you should send some of your financial gains from our knowledge to various charities. Pay it forward, shyster. -- https://tekrider.net/pages/david-brooks-stalker.php The bird of paradise alights only upon the hand that does not grasp |

So you *are* taking advantage of the information provided to your questions here, in the form of making money from the answers by passing it off as your own and/or the results of your so called research then? YOU ARE A SHYSTER. And, an actual example of what the saying 'shady tree mechanic' actually means. Handy for when I'm working on a machine where the built-in network drivers are missing or broken. Plug adaptor in, 99% of the time the OS picks it up and installs it and I have access to the internet to fix whatever is broken. 1+ So neither of you carry another machine which is essentially a portable lab to do the work with? If the machine you're checking out has an active internet aware piece of malware present, you're helping it out by re establishing a working internet connection? Have I got that right? Todd, Despite the fact you have a business license, you are NOT a professional technician. You are a shyster. You take jobs away from real technicians when you pass yourself off as one. Not only that, you make customers leary of actual technicians because they think (and with good reason based on the questions you ask here) that all technicians are incompetent and out to screw them over. You previously wrote about being a 'technician' (with no certs/degrees, etc) for 22 years or so. If that was true, WHY do you have to ask rudimentary 'how do I do this' questions here? Why do you depend on various people here to help you out? You should donate your 'tech fees' to a charity or two. As, you haven't really earned any of it. You've been mooching the knowledge from others and passing it off as your own; and, that's NOT right. -- https://tekrider.net/pages/david-brooks-stalker.php I'm the boss.My cat said so!! |
