Open Network Connections
Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you
want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings
of this connection.
On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one
of the following:
To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my
computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer
from the Internet check box.

It's likely that your PC has been infected by a worm. Here's an excerpt
from one of the hundreds of posts to this group that centers on that
topic. Use SEARCH to find others...

If necessary to stop the reboot process:
Start/Run
Type "shutdown -a" ENTER

Install or enable a firewall IMMEDIATELY, before connecting to the
internet:

VERY IMPORTANT to follow ALL steps, closing ports or installing the
patch is NOT enough.
Download the patch and regedit referenced in the article below.
You may need to do this at an uninfected computer and burn to CD or
save on floppies.
Each file is small enough to fit on a floppy.

Follow this to clean and protect your computer:

After this is resolved prevent similar occurrences by installing ALL
Critical Updates from Windows Update.
Keep antivirus up to date and run at least weekly.
Install or enable a firewall.

Is the "problem with RPC" due to the MSBlaster worm?

If your machine has been infected with that, you'll need to do more than
just turning on the firewall.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;826955

"Virus Alert About the Blaster Worm and Its Variants"

However, if turning on the firewall is all that you need, there's an
adequate description of it in XP's built-in help. (In brief: under Start,
settings, Network Connections, open the network connection you're using, and
click the Properties button. The firewall is activated using a checkbox on
the Advanced tab.)

HTH.
